Read this before posting!

If your having trouble with code, or logic, even the odd mathematical problem then this is the forum to post in. For more general programming questions, i.e game programming techniques, programming styles etc. should go in the Game programming Theory section here.

General rules for posting:

1)Lots of people are very unspecific about there problem. When posting do the following:

-Include the error that comes up(if any?)
-Describe to the best of your knowledge what your trying todo. Note: People won't bash you here, even if you are completely wrong in your description, this is a very friendly forum, most times people will correct you though. You should learn from every mistake you make whether that be coding or even with your knowledge of coding, both go hand in hand with each-other.
-Post your FULL CODE!, if you have code within multiple scripts, only post the code of the script with the error unless a member asked you to post up one of your other scripts or relevant to what the problem is.

For example:
If you have a error with animation then post the animation part up, if you have a error in a file called 'script.lua' then post up 'script.lua' etc.

2)We will not fix your code for you! Please don't ask outright for anyone to fix your code, there is a difference between a constructive error where someone has atleast attempted to try & fix it & a 'i have a error, got to get help' straight away.

A example of the difference:
-"I have code which needs fixing, can someone fix it for me."
-"I have a error that keeps on coming up, it says "attempted to compare number with nil", it's on line 12. The code is underneath, i have tried to change the variable, but it still get the error, but when i comment it out, it works fine. Any Ideas?"

3)Use code tags, if you've looked through this section you'd have seen quite a few boxes like this:
Code:
This is a code box

It makes posting code a lot easier & makes sure that there isn't a massive page of your code, to insert a code tag click the "#" button and insert your code between the {code}{/code} tags (replace { with [).

4)When posting for help on a question for a game please be specific with your problem, saying 'i need help with my platformer' sounds very general & some people may think that your asking them todo the code for you. Saying 'I need help with juming in my platformer', is much better & tells however is reading straight away the problem you have.

5)If your just getting started/learning lua, please look here to view a lot of guides on how to do a lot of things in lua.

6)Lastly please remember that people are spending there own free time to help you, they are not forced to. So please be thankful & respectful, there are quite a few respected people on here with years of experience in programming. You can show your thanks by adding reputation if you like it's the love symbol under anyone's avatar (though it's blue Tongue)

7)Lastly, flaming, bashing, personal insults, rude comments will not be tolerated, a ban or warning will be issued, and you'll make me get this out  Burning  Thumbs Down
